A couple of hand drawn Christmas cards I did for friends. Just ink & coloured pencils on card :)

Monday 23 December 2013

A Christmas card I did for a close friend Karen, based on a Monkey & Crab.

And here are Monkey & Crab in reality :) The monkey was made by the very talented Karen Hazeldine (from socks I believe) and the crab is a toy of hers too, so it seemed right to add these lovely characters to her card/illustration. Plus I enjoyed every minute of doing this work - such fun ^^

Original hand drawn sketch, before scanned and coloured.

First initial idea studies in notebook. As you can see, the original concept involved a rope and a panda "for some reason!!" Then as you can also see, I decided on crab instead. GOOD CHOICE I FEEL ^^

Wicket the Ewok: Because at some point in life, an ewok must be drawn.
As you can see here, the hand drawn image and the coloured in finish. Short and sweet and fun :)

I was listening to the radio today, and the song: All by myself was playing, and I thought to myself 'how depressing it would be if this was a Christmas single!' Thus in turn gave me the idea for this fun little piece. :D For those out there with no one this Christmas. BE THANKFUL.

Thumbnail sketches for All by myself - made in Notebook.

More general sketch ideas - Snow angel, next to another snow angel, but just the outline!
Another idea with one single handing the hand of another, but the other would be see through, like the ghost of someone not there anymore!

Original finished drawing - before colour added.. As you can see, it had eyes! I felt they weren't needed in the end.

Another piece playing on the word: Nothing on again! Just for fun, trying to look at things differently in interpretation.

Drawing before colour added :)

First sketch for TV and chair.

First thumbnail idea for this silly illustration!

Sunday 15 December 2013

It's dog and dinosaur. I have always enjoyed how certain dogs have no fear or care. But I think these two are good friends, so its ok.
Initial Sketch - before I scan and colour in.
Study sketch for dog.

Study thumbnails - trying to compose the work. The middle sketch is more like the end product.

A piece inspired by Children in need. Hand drawn and scanned into photoshop and coloured there.
Hand drawn in pen, then painted orange in Gouache paint. Just a bit of Halloween Fun ' With a noughts & crosses twist.

A drawing I did a couple of years ago and decided to scan it onto the computer and colour in photoshop, for practice. I think I did a ok job! :)

Above: Photograph of my hand to draw, and original sketch idea in my notebook for FROST.

An illustration based on the word FROST. Again, drawn, scanned and coloured in photoshop. Once more, I wanted to illustrate something different from the usual vision of snow and Jack Frost. I decided to be a little macabre and have someone writing 'YOU BIT ME' with the finger they lost through FROST BITE. :P

Stage 3: Final illustration - entitled: My notebook doodles. These are various characters I have created throughout my notebooks over the past year. Characters I had ideas for, but never used, so chose to draw some of them together "like a group photo" for amusement and maybe inspire me to use them in future projects. Also my obsession for colour is fully expressed here I think! :)
Stage 2: Colouring in, in photoshop. As you can see, the background is completed first before any attempt on the foreground is tacked has with all my painted work. Although using software enables a faster way to colour - I did take time and great care to make sure all the many colours work together, and I believe I have succeeded in this!

Sage 1: Original drawing - Firstly in pencil and then penned over. Originally drawn to hand paint, but thought that this would be an ideal piece to "brush" up my Photoshop skills gained. So, scanned in and proceeded to commence colourization. :)

*T A K E N 3. This is the result of a bored Sunday :) HAVING FUNNY FUN. Also, the result of a sketch I made a few weeks back in my notebook. Luckily I always carry one (Notebook), I get my best ideas away from the desk... F A C T ! Oh and Yes I am just taking the micky out of the TAKEN franchise. I'm Lonely OK  ;D
This is the original little sketch  made in my Rymans A6 notebook whilst out.. Probably having a coffee in Wetherspoon's, can't remember. I doodle everyday, but they are usually very odd and make no sense, like ME!
 Stage: 1
 Stage: 2
Stage: 3

Saturday 24 August 2013

Experimenting and just having fun and getting lost within madness for far too many hours than I intended!! Anyhow, I just playing around with pictures by printing photo's on to watercolour paper and playing around and seeing if I can manipulate them. Has I went along (not planning anything) I began to notice "specially with my eye's" how Monty Python it was getting!! Then suddenly I thought of one of my favourite films: The Adventures of Baron Von Munchausen, Thus I shall name this crazy piece of something: The Adventures of Baron Von Mattausen, because I CAN. ;)
The insane photograph that started this journey into darkness :0)

Wednesday 7 August 2013

Movie madness! But why I hear you ask? Well, another notebook doodle "Lucky I carry one"! Maybe!! :D

 The Beginning of the painting.
The concept stage, or as I like to put it, doodles of a crazy.. You'll note that there is also a concept for a 'Lost' idea, This might be another piece eventually! ;)

Tuesday 30 July 2013

The skier who's rubbish. Annoyed with the rough edges, that's because my printer is PANTS. The actual piece as sharp clear lined sides.
 Drawing ready to paint.
 Mid - way.
Original pen sketch in my notebook. I got the idea for the piece whilst out having a coffee, luckily I carry a notebook. As you can see, its more a rough reminder.
First draft of rough sketches. Just trying to see "if" and how it could work as a single piece.
The first idea in the first place came whilst I was out having that coffee and doodling characters for inspiration.. Then I noticed "the skier" and wanted to do something with it...

Sunday 28 July 2013

What began has a bored Friday night Doodle, became this creation of three crazy, odd characters. At first I was going to name it: The sexy Cat legs gang, but have chosen: I love my stupid head! And its just another excuse to go mad with colour, which is the best bit :)
Finished drawing ready to Paint :)
Mid-way through, as you can see, I work from Background to foreground, because I can build on the paint hiding untidy lines... I do enjoy a clean line, Nice and sharp.
